Outdoor Lighting Fixtures
March 30th, 2011Outdoor lighting fixtures come in many different styles and designs and can dramatically enhance your homes curb appeal, especially if they are gas lanterns. There are lots of choices such as lamps, copper gas lanterns torches, flood, accent and more.
The inventory can be overwhelming. It is recommended to narrow down your search based on the factors below:
Mounting
Pay attention to how the outdoor lighting fixture will be mounted as this can affect the overall look and feel. Some options will be:
- Post mount - This option has some flexibility as it can be mounted from a post or column including wooden, brick or metal posts and columns directly to the ground, deck/patio or even a fence/wall.
- Wall mount - This outdoor lighting fixture mount is common and is mounted directly to a wall or exterior surface.
- Bracket mount - Bracket mounts provide a lot of variety since there are many options to “dress” the outdoor lighting fixture up with scroll, gooseneck, flower and other bracket styles.
- Hanging mount - You can also hang your outdoor lighting fixture from the ceiling for a completely different type of look.
Outdoor lighting fixtures - How many do you need?
This decision greatly affects the look and style. The popular amount of outdoor lighting fixtures is two, but many like adding a lot more to highlight landscaping and other exterior features.
Gas or electric?
The main deciding factor in outdoor lighting fixtures is the power source. French influences are commonly found in the south and often use gas power. Drier climates often use more modern styles with electric power.
Antique or modern?
Lots to choose from. Rule of thumb is to match the styling that is used throughout the rest of the home. If your interior design is modern, then well, you get my point.
